A friend of mine said she would be visiting calgary for a bit, world traveler and model Theresa Manchester (www.theresamanchester.​com (external link)). So I took her to banff for a weekend and after photographing much of the mountains, lakes and waterfalls we got lucky and saw some aurora, one 4:20 am morning.

It lit up green at the start and as we made our way back to Calgary we saw swathes of red and purple spurt up and over everywhere along the mountains. Was an amazing week

Brilliant photo Karl! I never suspected it's possible to see aurora in this region. I always thought they are visible much more on the north. I live around the same latitude and here there are no auroras at all.
