Question wedding community.

Can you live with 35/85/135 on a wedding with two bodies?

one body with the 35 and one with the 135?

I'm in love with primes and I want to complete my trinity (35/85/135), but i have to give up my 70-200 to build that.

What do you think guyz?

the 70 200 is one of the best lens out there. personally with fast pace weddings i only shoot canon L zooms and see no reason to go back if it were up to me id sell all but the 85 and get the 16-35l 24-70l and 70-200is IIL

I can live with the 35 and 85 during the first part of the day... and the 35 and 135 for the ceremony. We just picked up the 70-200 IS MKII, and its a beauty, but the 135 is light, sharp and fantastic. I dig it, but the 70-200 is more versatile, and just about as sharp, but its big and white, and doesn't have the same punch when the bride is walking down the isle.

so are you saying the 35/85/135 combo are workable in wedding if you have 2 FF bodies?

i used to own the 135 and i would love to have it back but like i said financially i have to give up the 70-200 to reacquired the 135 back. but i now have a chance to do wedding gig. that's stops me from doing the switch. that's why i'm asking for opinion.

and yes sometimes i don't like the attention the white lens are getting. it makes you look cool and pro but annoying sometimes.

If you have the 70-200 2.8 without IS, I would say the 135 is a better choice. While I can hand hold the 135 at shutter speeds of 1/80th, I would doubt I could get sharp photos with the 70-200 zoomed into 200 at 1/100th... without IS.

If your 70-200 has IS, I would probably keep it... as its going to get you more flexibility.

But yes, to answer your question, I feel more than comfortable shooting with 35 and 135 on FF bodies.

Pretty much my entire portfolio was done with the 35L/85LII/135L combo on 5D2/5D3 cameras. A great combination.

I prefer zooms, but if I had to use only primes, I'd use 24/50/135(or 100). The 24mm immerses the viewer like no other lens. That is what event photography is to me. 35mm is too far from 85, which in turn is to close to 135. Sure you can work with those, but the 24/50/135 is better spaced.

The 50 will give you some pretty strong distortion when taking a head shot of the bride though. I guess you could get away with the 135... but that would be quite tight. For me, the 85 is perfect for these photos.

i once used the canon 28mm on FF for a group shot in a wedding, so wide for me and you have to be careful with distortion all the time. the only way to make it work for me is back up and crop. but i'm pretty sure the 24mm is nice to have in tight spaces.

I am thinking about this kit but I couldn't decide between 135 or 70-200 I think 70-200 is more useful

what i like about prime is that, you will be forced to use its focal length creatively. and i don't like the bokeh on the 70mm even wide open.

everytime i used my 70-200, i have to back up and zoom to 200 to get that bokeh i wanted.
