i'm an enthusiast and a bit invested in canon gear as well (see sig), but i'm fed up with Canon lack of innovation (at least lack of in right direction).

My buddy got a7, but it all in Japanese, so far I like it, but can't try all functions because neither I or him can understand the menus...

oh man... these is a language menu you can change to English i believe. if you are interested in a decent body that gives great image quality, i say get one and use it as an everything camera, this way you don;t have to put miles on your canon gear... :-)

That is pretty incredible. All electronic devices nowadays have multiple language options.

Couldn't the guy with the Japanese language only A7 just update the software with the U.S. version? Maybe download firmware to SD card, insert, and force rewrite? If not through SD, then perhaps tethered to a computer?

Maybe tether and search firmware files and compare to U.S. firmware files, then swap in mismatched items?

Not a registered user, so I'm not sure what the inventory of hacks includes. Worth a look though.

i will let him know, somehow I doubt they would have anything for the new a7.
And unsure if he would want to do that to a brand new camera.

Day #2 with it.... i'm still trying to figure some things out out the camera... i can;t wait for the 55mm to come out.

I've been using a Youngnou manual flash with it... it's does good work, will pick up a sony one in january/feb next year... so far so good, i think!

How is the EVF? I'm using a Zacuto Z-finder on my 5D III as a kind of make-shift EVF, but the Canon Live View system is a bit laggy which leads to some dizziness when panning the camera. But, I've read/heard that the A7/R EVF is very snappy.

It's been raining nonstop since yesterday so i have not had the opportunity to run out and do a FULL test with it.... but i will tomorrow morning in the cold. :-)
