Canon 5D MKIII owners...How tempted are you to switch to the Nikon D800 ?

With some of the recent threads popping up lately in regard to the excellent image quality produced by the Nikon D800 and Nikon D800E...I was curious how tempted you are to switch to the Nikon:

1. I am NOT tempted by the Nikon D800
2. While I am a Canon shooter, and am considering the Nikon D800
3. I definitely plan to purchase a Nikon D800

Please elaborate a bit on the basis for your decision

This won't end well

jumping ship for a body is probably silly for almost everyone except:

1. pros who absolutely need a feature offered on a new body
2. people with excessive amounts of money
3. people who have very little invested into one system
4. people who don't consider lens options and get gear lusted because they need that extra 1% to take pics of the family dog
5. people who are incapable of realizing that better bodies will be released in the future, and then you will have a completely useless old gen body and all the images you took with it will need to be deleted because they are now awful old tech images.

Quick! everyone hit "I definitely plan to purchase a Nikon D800",......Canon might see it and get their arse in gear


Im not a pro, but I do enjoy landscape photography and the benefits the the Nikon (plus the 14-24) are a serious eye opener.

I think - If I had the choose again Id pick Nikon. As it is I have quite a bit of cash invested in Canon Lenses, so ill probably stick with them for the moment. But....If canon does not up their game Ill jump ship.

dude, if you had a d800 you could push those shadows and get a usable image. sorry you made such a bad gear choice.

it's never too late for an entertainment thread :P

I am completely happy with my 5Diii and have no desire to have the D800 and I am too heavily invested in Canon to consider changing to Nikon. Besides, at the level of my photography, I doubt seriously that I could tell the difference between the files produced by the two cameras.

i am happy with my setup, and i have no plans to get a camera that has its own problems, with white noise in long exposures as well as the part about you not been able to use some of the focus point on the left side of the camera, that if Nikon have got it fixed?. as the last time this was posted they can not sort this problem out.

Not tempted because I really like the AF and controls/ergonomics of the 5D3.

As much as the Nikon rules in IQ department, 5Dmark III is AF/sport monster comparing to Nikon D800.

I rented a D800E and assorted lenses of the long 4th of July weekend.

The grass on the other side is significantly less green now. The only issue is pushing shades in low (not high) ISO where the Canon is a joke.

Already added D4 and 800 with similar lenses to match my Ls after my 5D3 mysteriously died...passing on to the nephews the Canon system...i just can't chance a sudden mysterious death when it really counts.
