A couple of months back, I got a good deal on the 16-35 2.8 II. The problem was that I had all crop-factor bodies (7D, 50D, 30D), and the 16-35 just wasn't wide enough for many purposes on a crop body.

Sure, I still have the 10-22 for really wide stuff... but despite how good the 10-22 is, there really wasn't much of a comparison between the two in terms of image quality; at least with my copies of the two, the 16-35 wins, hands-down. Sharper edge-to-edge, better contrast, better color, etc. But it's just not as wide as I sometimes need.

Thus yesterday I treated myself to a 6D as a Black Friday deal ($1400). This despite the fact that I'd promised this would not be a big gear acquisition year for me (as last year I bought the 7D and the 500 f4 II among other things). ;)

One of the ways to stop equipment envy/acquisition is to cancel you online access, throw your computer away and move to a deserted island, don't bring your gear, just food.

If that doesn't work....buy more gear it is too much fun. ;) :)

just a few of my thoughts...

You might want to trade the new 500 for a beautiful 600

Congrats on the 6D. Do you mind if I ask where did you get your camera from? I searched everywhere and couldn't find anything under $ 1799.

Very true.

I already have 4 L lenses. But still itching to buy at least two more.

I just hold my purse tight -- not sure how long I can do that. Everytime a good deal pops out, I am just glad it is gone quickly.

I followed the deals listed on either CanonWatch.com or CanonRumors.com. Got it from an eBay reseller (new, not grey market, though without the Canon warranty since they're not an authorized reseller--still, $400 off what most retailers have it for was worth it).

I ended up buying a Nikon D610 on a whim during Black Friday. Not sure why since I already have the 5D MKIII, but I just wanted to try the Nikon system since I used a Nikon D7100 for a few months. Now I gotta find some nice older primes...

If you got the funds...go for it. I think the 6D was a good price.

Both sites frequently have links to good deals (plus, as their names might suggest, plenty of rumors and announcement news).

Canon's refurb store is another option. I picked a 6D up a couple weeks ago when they were running a sale. $1288 shipped, it is like new. They are selling for $1519 (external link) right now. Canon is offering a 1 year warranty on their refurbs now.

Almost 10% California tax is killing the refurbished deal. With tax and shipping it's about 100 bucks less than brand new ones.

I'd rather walk in to a store and pick one up so I can play with is as soon as I get my hands on it. And that my friends is well worth of 100 bucks.
