Adobe Products vs computer issues.

I am wondering if anyone else has problems with adobe products breaking down configurations on the computer. My computer is dedicated to my photography and I currently have PS6, Elements 10 and LR 5. Nothing else. What usually starts as an adobe problem in Elements or Lightroom winds up impacting my computers config system. This time it was an error 16 which should have been a simple fix but again it shut down the computer so now I have to go in and reconfig the system. This started happening after I started using Adobe products which started with the purchase of PS2 a few years ago. It(PS) was always crashing. So, I completely upgraded the system with a more powerful graphics card, larger hard drive, more powerful fan, etc. Anything to enhance the performance. It is a 2.4 processor. Do I need to quit using adobe products or do I need to upgrade to a more powerful unit? Very frustrated as It always seems to happen when I am in a crunch! I have a deadline in two days.

How about a thorough virus scan with a good antivirus program?

Thank you for replying. Don't think that is the issue. Avast and Malware are both current with recent scans. It all seems to be related to Adobe. I start having issues with one of their programs and it affects all their programs and at the same time slows my computer way down and then locking my computer up. I usually have 2 external hard drives connected so maybe I am confusing the computer or the programs. Possibly I am overwhelming my USB bus. Just don't know. If no one else is having these issues, then it is probably operator error. Just wish I knew what I was doing wrong. It goes from running perfect to crashing. Frustrating.

Have you tried heading over to Adobes forums to see if anyone there has a solution?

Yes I have, and while they have addressed the individual program issues, no one seems to know why it impacts my system. I'll just have to keep searching, but after fighting this for a couple years, I am ready to start from scratch. Newer more powerful computer and running fewer Adobe applications. I have the system up and running again but now it does not recognize my CD/DVD drive so I can't reinstall my programs. Something new. ARRGHHH. Time to put it to sleep and start over in the morning. Thanks everyone.

Hmm, it's one of those "mysteries" that no one can likely answer! A new system with new software would likely perform better, but that's still not the "answer"!

What are the complete specs on the computer?

Have you tested the hard drive for errors?

Why are you re-installing software after a crash? Was it a freeze? A blue screen?

Are all drivers up to date ? a lot of problems arise when Windows downloads updates and incompatible drivers are on the system....quite often I have found updating Graphics card driver helps resolve similar issues...

Sounds like bad RAM and or your BIOS needs updating. I'd also replace the backup battery.

mtnmom: I don't know what your operating system is nor do I have your computer's specifications.
But since you reported that it won't recognize the cd/dvd drive, I suspect that your system file(s) is corrupted.

Start up the computer and press F8 (repeatedly) as soon as it's started. This will take you to a diagnostic screen - choose 'Safemode with Command Prompt', the press Enter.

You're now in dos mode, with the cursor flashing at the end of:
C:\windows\system32>_

Type: cd\<press Enter> and you'll now see: C:\>_

Type: sfc /scannow <Enter>. THAT IS: 'sfc, space, forward slash, scannow' - then press Enter.

Let the system scan, and repair any corruption it finds; reboot, and see if the computer will recognize the cd/dvd drive (and hopefully fix your problems running the Adobe programs).

Hope this helps.
Paul

I saw somewhere someone was having that problem and they ran as admin and it went away. also I saw removing the read only check from the adobe folder under C:\Program Files\Common Files seems to work as well which makes sense.

questions I would have are

1: what operating system? if its windows XP then the problem is definetly software XP was horrible at managing memory and the pagefile.

2: does this happen as while you are running the software or when you try to start it? trying to start means software problem, while running then it could be either software or hardware, more likely software though.

3: when you say re-config the system what do you mean? what exactly do you do? I'm guessing re-install. if so are you making sure drivers and bios are updated?

4: you said you upgraded with more powerful stuff CPU, Graphics and fan hopefully you also did the power supply.

5: when it crashes are you getting the blue screen with a long error code?

get out and shoot

Once you rule out hardware issues, I would try CCleaner (external link) to clean out residual junk and scan your registry (assuming you use windows).
