With no hood on it looks much more manageable....not that size is what's keeping me from buying it...rather the fact that I'd have to sell most of my gear to buy it.... :(

Oh no! Another budget-busting lens lust. Ugh.

I am not one to go by, but I tried this lens out for about ten minutes at B&H and I could barely hold it steady for even a few seconds. Seven pounds hanging off the end of a 1DX is a lot of weight.

Interesting. I thought I saw where the 200-400 isn't that much different weight & size-wise compared to my old Sigma 120-300 OS with a 2xTC, which I could hand-hold ok. But- I still would love to handle one for a few minutes like you did just to see. You're lucky you have B&H in your back yard. :)

1. I am not a fan of tripods and hardly use them. I'd say 80-90% of my shots could be considered keepers and they all pretty much hand held.

2, thanks. I had two of them, kept one. Paired w the 600 ii, ultimate super tele combo.

Well we are all of different strengths and abilities and some possess better technique. I don't doubt for a second there are those who can handhold it. That's why I said don't go by me. Though I am not a 98 pound weakling. A weak link, yes. ;)
