Which would you pic 7d /70-20 ii or 70d/70-300L

had to sell all of my equipment due to illness in the family. now have a little extra cash Already decided to go 70d and 15-55 els 2.8 not worried too much about focal distance difference because I don't shoot things that far a way
for those that have used the 70 to 200 and the 70 to 300 on a 70 body could you let me know if you felt the price difference was worth it?

Don't have the 70D, still stuck on the 7D but am a big fan of the Tamron 70-200 VC. I would think the 70D would give even better images than the 7D.

I'm a big fan of matching canon lenses to canon bodies, but that's a big chunk of money ( if you could afford it). Ill also be upgrading to a 70d soon with my 70-200 f4

Take a look at the lens archive for both of them.

the IQ advantages of the 70D over the 7D aren't too big if you look at the samples. invest in better glass this time around.

I use to shoot with an older 70-200 F/2.8 and I recently bought the 70-200 F/4 IS. For me weight was a concern for long shooting periods. If weight is at all a concern to you then I would go for a lighter F/4 lens. Also, F/4 lenses in general will be less costly and lighter weight than their F/2.8 counterparts. An important consideration for some. I hope that helps.

I went from a 7D to a 70D and found the 70D to be the best crop body I've used. With any shots above ISO800 I got much better IQ from it than the 7D. If you're not too worried about long FL's maybe a 55-250 STM lens would be a great addition. The older 55-250 is a very good performer but thre STM version is supposedly a better performer all round. I'm saving for a 55-250 STM at the minute to go with my 70D and an EOS M that I'm getting for christmas.

The guy at Canon Repair was saying the 70D has a "whole different kind of AF, very well suited for video". That got me thinking to do the same - trade the 7D for 70D.

I like the 7D but so far, non-pro video (ie: AF suited for consumer) on Canon DSLR is a joke.

What's an STM lens?

I have the 70d and 70-300 combo. Great long end range and it appears you already have the closer stuff covered with the 17-55. I never liked the 70-200 on a crop body, not long enough for anything and not wide enough for indoor use. FF would be a completely different story.

I would go 70d/70-300.

Side note - You guys who keep saying that there is little IQ difference between the 7d and 70d might try shooting them both before saying that. Having had a 7d several times, there is a night and day difference in the IQ I am seeing, esp. higher ISOs, and the AF is much more solid.

Its called a STepper Motor- they are new for video that is supposed to have more noise reduction from focusing durning video

70d was $949 today. That is hardly more than a decent 7d.
I would go 70d and 70-200 2.8

Well if I was dead set on getting the 70D now is the time. Check this out: EOS 70D with 18-135 IS STM for $1099 at Amazon. Which, I am guessing will be price matched at Adorama and B&H.

Personally, I'm waiting for the 7DII for a body upgrade.
