This thread is in the group "Lens sample Photo Archive" so I assumed you were looking for a thread for the new "S"-version of the lens. Back to my reply : Why not use this thread for showing images from the new "S"-version? Instead of creating a new one.

I loved the combo 1D mmiii and the 120-300, but the mkIV brings the little extra out of the lens. Some photos from a footballmatch tonight. All shot with a Sigma 1.4x TC :

I'm thinking of getting this lens. I sold my Canon EF300/4L yesterday cause I want to go up one level on quality of lenses. I've never had OS/IS in my tele lenses before so maybe it will make it easier to get better photos.

I photograph wildlife, will this lens be the right choice for me if I want to be able and shoot with teleconverters? With the 300/4L I liked the images I got from the 1.4x converter. I will use it together with my new 70D

OS/IS will be useful if/when you're shooting slower than 1/500s shutter speeds. Otherwise, they don't really play a role and you end up paying a premium to have the feature.

So if you're shooting wildlife that aren't moving fast and you're not using monopod/tripod so you have to handhold at 1/50s-1/500s, then the OS/IS will come in handy. Otherwise, it's just there to stabilize the viewfinder.

This is a pretty heavy/hefty lens though. You might want to go to a local store to try out the weight to see if you'd be comfortable handholding this lens for extended periods of time.

I found a new Meike 1.4x teleconverter for 100 USD, what do you think about that one together with the Sigma? I can't find any reviews.

to get the best in terms of compatibility, performance and IQ from both this lens and your body stick to the Sigma 1.4TC. Its not expensive at all and it will make a universe of difference than any other third party TC. Even Canon or Nikon TCs might present full functionality issues as its a rule lenses work the best with their own brand TCs. Other than that i would trust only the kenko 1.4 DGX PRO 300 TELEPLUS.

Looking at this lens myself
Anyone know the difference in the new and older model? They look nearly identical to me :( Massive difference in price though... 3 times.
