You can always get a glass cover off ebay and do it yourself. I replaced the back LCD of my 60D for about $20.

Here is the 5D3 part from the same store where I bought it from:

But that might be risky. Not sure how much Canon would charge for the part and labor.

Ouch! Man best bet is to send it in to canon and get a repair estimate, then proceed from there.

Agreed. I didn't noticed that the LCD itself was damaged - not just the glass cover. OP, you have my sympathies.

How did it happen?

As I see it is not only the glass cover, but the lcd panel itself... :(
Have no idea I would guess around $150.

stupid me, doing a shoot, left one light stand up and it fell on my camera on the floor. Never leave a light stand blanking and never leave your camera on the floor

If it can be done for $150 I'd be surprised. Various places list the LCD panel at $100. With labor I'd figure closer to $250 to $275.

Check your LCD function, if everything in the display works, repair the glass yourself. Here's how simple it is. (click the link)

from the parts catalog, the LCD isn't a separate part so you need a complete top panel assembly.
lots of hits online, for example see: http://www.amazon.co.uk …G2-3197-010/dp/B00AA7R6NM (external link)

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", 1D MK II converted for IR, and now an M5

The Canon out of warranty minimum labor charge is $209. you should start from there. Good luck with the repair.
