So here is the deal. ill be upgrading to the 70d from my 60D either next week or sometime early next year. with that said i was planning on using my current lenses for stills and video, but the more i read about the 18-135 stm lens and how much better for video they are im confused on what to do as far as buying or keeping.

i currently have the canon 17-55 2.8 is and the canon 70-200 f4. will the 18-135 stm lens be that much better than my 17-55 2.8 for video? if the stm is better than i need to get the 70d-18-135 kit and sell the 17-55 and replaced it with like a sigma wide lens 1.4? this is where im stuck so i would like to know from more experienced ones or the ones that own the 70d and weight my options as what i need to do. im really happy with the 17-55, but if it wont be all that smooth or up to stm i really dont want to be carrying 3 heavy lens.

Canon 70D/70-200 f4/17-55 2.8/BG-E9/430EZ I like DSLR's. It makes a distinction between photo fans and normal people who don't give a damn how a picture could look like

The more stills I see of the 70D+18-135 lens, the more I like the lens. I also have the 17-55 and if I see the deal again for the 70D kit with that lens for $1,099 I may jump on it and send back my purchase of the body only.

I don't do a lot of video, but for video the 18-135 STM is much smoother focusing, practically silent (the 17-55mm 2.8 is very audible in the recording); and the 18-135 STM has what Canon calls "Dynamic IS" that's supposed to help when shooting video when walking... not something I've really tested myself.
IMO the IQ of the 17-55 is noticeably better and the f/2.8 is important to me for stills (it's my most used lens), on the other hand if you're doing a lot of video the 18-135 stm may be the more appropriate tool; it has a very versatile focal range (with some distortion at the wide angles (easily corrected)) and can be a nice travel / walk around lens too.
Of course, just to confuse things there is the 18-55mm STM out now...

STM lens allows smooth servo AF in video. If you want to do AF in videos, then you want an STM lens. But for stills, the 17-55 is a better lens due to the fast aperture and USM AF.

If you just want a cheap STM lens, you can get an 18-55 STM for like $100, or a 40mm f2.8 STM for $150.

Dang it that's what I didn't want to hear. I had the previous 18-135 with my 60d and I detested that lens. Since the sigma 35mm 1.4 isn't stabilized I'm now considering the canon 35 f2 is. Thats is if I can sell the 17-55.?!
