Hi. How is this lens working for video? Is the stm lenses still preferred? Looking to get the 70d and replace my 17-55 with a 35mm or the stm one

Canon 70D/70-200 f4/17-55 2.8/BG-E9/430EZ I like DSLR's. It makes a distinction between photo fans and normal people who don't give a damn how a picture could look like

I don't do video but I have seen some utube vids showing it works great because of the IS

Some nice pics in this thread. My copy is on its way. I plan to replace my 40 STM with this lens for the extra stop and IS. I sold my 35 L a while back, so it will be nice to have a 35 prime again.

Sony A1, 20mm f/1.8 G, 35mm f/1.4 GM, 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II, 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II , 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS, 1.4X TC, Flashpoint flashes

I had a chance to test this lens out some time ago, and for video purposes on a 70D it can follow focus almost as well as the STM lenses. Quality wise its a fine lens for video if the angle of view provided by 35mm on 1.6X crop is what you need. The part which is most problematic for video is when the IS is turned on. Unless you're using a dedicated external microphone, the onboard mics will pick up the noise produced by the IS motor on the lens. So if you have footage where the primary audio source is from the onboard mics, then you will more than likely hear the IS motor noise in your video clip. Otherwise the bokeh quality and sharpness is pretty nice for video indeed. :-)

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.
