B&H Customer service is great. I purchased a used lens off them and it’s now on sale cheaper than what I paid for a used one. (After rebates)

I contacted them and they gave me option of returning and buying new or a nice discount on the used.

Now that’s Customer Service…….. You do not get that with the big box stores.

No they're not. At all. They're a family owned business.

I don't consider them anywhere near a big box store.

To me a big box store is usually a chain store, and the employees are not necessarily even close to being thoroughly educated in the product they are selling.

I think when most people use the term "big box store" they're referring to huge chain stores that don't specialize in a particular area (or have any/many employees with specialized knowledge). I guess we could nit-pick the OP's use of terminology, but we should all be able to agree that buying camera equipment from B&H is usually different from the experience you'd have shopping at Target or Wal-Mart or Sears (at least in terms of the kind of information an employee can help you with).

What a big box store does not have:
1) Knowledgeable employees who actually use the products they sell (OK, maybe smart phones and video games)
2) Fairly encyclopedic stock -- multiple vendors for things as mundane as camera straps. You don't see that at Best Buy!
3) Things that are more important than money -- I don't see big box stores closing for the Sabbath (or your holy day of choice), let alone for a week or more at a time for religious observances.
4) The respect of every pro I know in photography, videography, sound, filmmaking...

With the difference b&h don't go around screwing its own employees. .

Have been buying from b&h for at least 4+ years and not a single issue here!

Canon 70D/70-200 f4/17-55 2.8/BG-E9/430EZ I like DSLR's. It makes a distinction between photo fans and normal people who don't give a damn how a picture could look like

Same here. More positive than negative but a few sour ones in the mix for sure. They have always made it right though. Once it took a call from me to American Express but I was satisfied with the result in the end.
