Hey gang, REALLY sorry for the absence (not that anyone missed me. . . . sniff) last three weeks at work have been 71 hour weeks so not had much time for anything else, hopefully finishing around 8pm on Tuesday with a few days off so fingers crossed we can get out with the cameras.

On a side note: anyone have the 'Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L USM' pref with the 5D mk3 - what do you think of it? any better than the 70-200 2.8 mk2 with 2x mk3 extender?

Just curious as I have the itch to get a new lens for wildlife until the racing season starts again.

Thanks again

.DAVID.

PS: don't 'do' corperateripoffmas but I will wish you all happy holiday and a photo packed 2014

David, I have that lens but with the 7D. Its a fabulous lens and well worth having. I believe that Penel now has that lens with the 5D III and I think she is pretty happy with it - hopefully she will see your post and respond.

Of course if you want a really cracking lens there is always the 500mm lol (which of course I dont have).

Linda

 oh dear, I have too much L glass envy & too little money :(

I do indeed have it, and use with the 5D3 all the time. All my wildlife shots since April have been taken with it - just check out my flickr and you can see them. This hare is one of my faves - you can see how beautifully sharp it is. I think you can view it larger on flickr too. Go on get it you will love it!

With everyone so busy, I feel guilty about having plenty of time on my hands to get out and shoot right now .

Anyway, a last minute (one of those "get up late, what shall we do today?) decision to just drive to Swanage so Nicki could say "Happy Xmas" to her Dad and cousin, turned into a good shooting day as the sea was a bit angry..

Gave Nicki chance to try out her Olympus OMD-5 as well.

A lovely set ofo pics, but these are my favs of them, especially the second one here - the colouring of this really sets off the anger of the sea.

Very cute

Ditto Lee again re taking more photos in 2014, most of mine this year have been either for work, as in the day job or weddings so need to do more for fun.

Morning all. Love the Chameleon Lee, very cool! :)

I've had a real lull in my photography too, I just never really have any spare time these days, or so it seems! I have just been asked to take some aerial photos next month of a foundation for a new memorial (I think at Capel), the foundation will be shaped like a spitfire and the builder is going to put me in a helicopter to take some shots for him. Can't wait! (Just hope the weather will be better than today!!)

Have a happy Christmas all :)

Mike that sounds interesting and happy Christmas to you.

Two posts on the same page I had better calm down

There is a reason why they repeatedly tell people not to drive through flood water :):)

@ Mike ~ super opportunity  best of luck getting the 'shot'.

@ Lee ~ very nice looking chameleon, fascinating creatures.

@ Adrian ~ oh dear, someone's Christmas ruined by poor judgement. How long was the car there as the water is only(?) up to the hubs??? I think like motorway driving & skid control not being taught, the correct way to assess and drive through deep(er) water is sadly lacking..............having said that there are some cars that are notorious for having air intakes at the level of the front bumper skirt like the early Renault Espace, there were cases of just deep puddles causing hydraulic block let alone flood waters!

Oh, in case I forget........A Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year to all in the SE PoTN club

Adrian that will be an expensive job for the owner hydraulic'd engines usually mean lots of bent things that are meant to be straight and things that are straight which are meant to be bent
