Why not much talk about the 24-70 IS F4 ?? Experience ?

i don't have a 70-200 mk2, but i feel if i did i wouldn't change it out for my 24-105, nothing against my 24-105.

you could get a 24-105L, and a 100mm macro, and still have $200 left over in your pocket

For bug macro,the little working distance not very important, both working distance will scare out the bug. But I found too close to subject will have cast shadow on the subject and for bug 0.7x is not enough because I always not enough with 1:1 macro lens. But the Macro mode is very useful for others things, i do hiking a lot, sometime two lens add a lot burden, 24-70 f4 is almost perfect. Now I am thinking which tele lens to pair with it.

Agreed. I usually will bring the 40mm pancake and one of the following lenses. 24L II, 8-15L, or I will bring just the 24-70mm f/4L IS. I like bringing the 24-70L because I have a good range to work with, and also don't need to bring a macro. Saving weight and space. Especially for the overnight hikes.

I agree most of people will argue that 24-105L and Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VR is more value to the price. But both of them cant do macro like this without any extension tube or adapter.

You're true... concerning this "macro" feature did you remark any focus shift issue (or was it on the 1st samples reviewed ?)

I cant answer your question, I shoot handheld,the movement shift is more problem to me, so normally I will shoot few shot and choose the best. So far the keeper rate is on par when I using 100mm L.

that's true...however, the same could be said for the f4 not being able to shoot at f2.8, or 70mm+...the only difference is you can pair either of those lenses with a true macro lens, and still be under the cost(or near it) of the f4 alone...

True. There are always compromises, but I think the 24-70L f/4 IS is as close to a jack of all trades lens as your going to get. Still, I think most people will suffer the inconvenience of carrying multiple lenses to get that extra ounce of IQ that a specialized lens will give you.

Once the price falls enough, I'll consider picking this up.

New to to this site but have recently bought the 24-70 f4 IS and have complained to Canon regarding the Focus Shift issue and if they have any intention to do anything about it.
I'm really struggling to get a sharp photograph and I'm really disappointed with Canon.
I've researched it so I know I'm not the only one having issues but are Canon normally this blinkered when there is clearly an issue with a released product?

I received an email from Canon UK yesterday with instructions on resetting my 5D3 as some Custom Functions MAY effect auto focusing?
I cleared all the camera settings and put it into Auto as they requested and it clearly shows the AF hunting, setting, and the back focusing!!!!
Also went on YouTube and found a pro-photographer in the USA who had the same issue, returned it for repair and it came back with the same fault?
My dealer is ordering a new lens for me to try but beware. Make sure you test this lens before you take it out of the shop.

The 24-70mm f4 more compact and light than the Tamron 24-70.
Compared to the 24-105mm f4 it has higher image quality, lower CA and lower distortion. As far as I'm concerned, with the 24-70mm f4 the 24-105mm has no reason to exist.
