If a tree falls does it make sound?

We all know it does, but when photographic moments occur will anyone see it? I am so happy I picked up my new Canon SL1 with the 40 mm pancake lens, and I want to share my first real shot taken.

I have all my bags filled with toys, Pelican cases protecting gear with silicon packs making sure no mold sets in. The problem is they sit just waiting for some reason to pull them out, and I finally decided that photo's simply cannot wait for a specific purpose and I needed to start being ready for these moments that are before us each and every day we breathe.

So back to my original purpose with this thread, if a tee falls it makes sound even when no one is around to hear it. Every day we are faced with photographic moments that we know occurred, but no one else gets to share the experience because the moment was not captured.

My SL1 will start traveling with me from one experience to another and I'm hoping that this tiny little piece of technology will serve it's purpose as well as my full frame bodies with the "L" lenses.

So here is my first shot, a moment that occurred and no one else was there to capture it. It would have simply passed away in time and had I not had this SL1 my other cameras would have still been stored asleep in the cases.

The best camera is the one you have with you. For those of us who enjoy capturing these moments, it's up to us to be sure they are captured or as the tree that no one heard fall, the moment will be seen by no one other you!

Sometimes I forget how much I love photography... These moments frozen in time and shared with others help me realize why I will always be taking photographs.

Hahahahaha took me a while to get that!!!!!

Canon 70D/70-200 f4/17-55 2.8/BG-E9/430EZ I like DSLR's. It makes a distinction between photo fans and normal people who don't give a damn how a picture could look like

Your point is well made, Randy.

Do you plan to carry the SL1 with you through most days?

No, but I do plan on carrying it more often. My attitude of what to photograph is changing more towards my interests rather than that of others. My New Years goal is to set assignments for myself to improve with composition, exposure, and simply getting better at capturing subjects that will spark interest. I have a Smugmug web site that hasn't been getting updated enough.

I feel the same. My X100s serves the same purpose as your SL1/40mm.

Since I purchased a pocket camera, I have had far fewer "darn, I wish I had a camera" moments.
