Ok, bear with me here. I have recently assessed my photo's. The main focus is on birds and landscapes so it is probably no surprise that about 65-70%% of my pics are at the extremes of my range (<30mm & >290mm). What do I do about it?

To get over 300mm I would really like the Sigma 150-500. It is the most I can spend and would need to sell my 70-300.

Less sure about a wider lens though. If I keep the 17-50 there is a gap up to 150mm. So the 15-85 has caught my eye to get a bit wider and a better range for a walk around lens. Alternatively I also have a recently acquired 50D & 18-55IS II. I could persevere with that lens as a walk around and sell the 17-50 for a 10-20/22.

Thanks

Probably worth waiting for the Tamron 150-600mm, I think it might be sharper than Sigma and adds 100mm more focal lenght.

You are what you eat - I dont remember eating a photographer.

What's the price going to be for the Tamron?
Usually I think that waiting for a new lens is just setting you up to be lens-less, but I guess the Tamron is close enough for the wait to be worth it :)

I'd also have a look at the Sigma 17-70. It's faster & cheaper but less focal length range than the 15-85.

$1069 for pre-order at B&H. For reference, the Sigma 150-500 is $969.

For Australian stock the Sigma 150-500 is about $900 and the Tamron 200-500 is about $1400. I don't hold much hope of the new 150-600 launching for less than that.

Very best,
