I had my 7D and Canon 70-200 2.8 lens waiting on a Christmas show to start at Dollywood. Due to the very low lighting this was the only lens I had that would work and my wife wanted a couple of pictures.

Just before the show was to begin I was approached by a female who ask why and who I was taking pictures for. She said I must be a professional with lens like that. She then ask if I could take some of her daughter who was in the show. All she had was an ipad and it would not take pictures in low light. She was more than willing to pay me for this service.

Cool. I get people all the time who ask what magazine I shoot for when I'm out doing wildlife stuff.
I hope you got her some great photos.

Here is one of the pictures. As for what I charged, that is always between me and my customers. However, I am retired from another line of work and can afford to be generous sometimes.

Very best,

Could care less if they or anyone else thought I might be a pro. Perhaps you can define 'pro' for me.

BTW: I have been working for the past 8 years under contract to shoot all sports for a NCAA Div II college.

In regards to the pictures at this show - these will probably be the only pictures she has of her 10 year old daughter's performance.

I find the need of a release to sometimes be a very fine line
But to side on the safety side, I decided to take the picture down.

I don't think he ever said that he sold a photo to a 3rd party or published anything.

Why's everybody being such a pr!ck to the OP?

The dog whistle call buried in the OP's post was a kind of 'I have super nice stuff, and people think I'm awesome!' Give or take. I don't really care to get into it, but that is the subtext that is calling out the responses such as they are.

JefferyG - correct nothing has been sold to a 3rd party, but posting it on this forum could be considered publishing and with a minor involved - I have other things more information to worry about than that.

Now, on to a new topic and discussion
