Improper white balance changes the saturation of the noise, and can really enhance it, at least from my own experience, so I always keep an eye on my white balance before my post processing starts.

Being on a budget I will be looking for a used camera. How do the 60D and 50D perform for high ISO images?

I believe that if you start a new thread, you would get a better discussion going. Good luck!

I know making the picture warmer made the picture noisier but I liked the warmer look little better. :)

Here is an exact same camera setting shot with cooler edit.

Is your monitor calibrated? On both of mine, the warmer ones seem very orange/yellow. The colder edit looks a bit more realistic.

The noise does seem less on the last edit though. I am always amazed how noise seems worse with bad WB, most likely due to the saturation on the red channel under CFL lights. I know the noise isn't increased or decreased at the digital level, the noise just changes color or intensity. The red channel on my 5D3 seems really bad, worse than some other bodies I have had in the past, but I am unsure how that could really be.

Might just be me though? Here is ISO 12800 side by side, the only change is white balance. Thoughts?

It is definitely something to think about, Cary. Noise normally isn't very noticeable in "busy" areas. But large plain neutral areas seems to be where my eyes are drawn when looking for noise. If a neutral area is properly white balanced, then perhaps there is better noise cancellation between the R, G, & B channels as opposed to a neutral area with a color bias. Or maybe when the image isn't white balanced it is just my eyes telling me that the colors are not right. I'll peruse through some of my high ISO images to see if I notice anything related to WB.

ISO 6400, 7D

It may not be the cleanest image, but I don't pixel peep, and I don't worry too much about noise... And no matter what pixel peepers say about the 7D, I looove this camera.
