Frankly, I tend to perceive good bokeh is something more than just butter blurred backgrounds (which is something that about 99% of this thread is filled with). For me, good bokeh is something where the out-of-focus areas deliver something that actually captures your attention. Subject isolation with wide open one-point-something aperture as such is not interesting (even if your lense allows for that).

Really, it's not interesting? You don't say? Well you heard it hear first folks, the gods have spoken and subject isolation with a wide open aperture is just not interesting lol.

I believe the reaction is your own. I do support what I expressed. And I understand many may disagree. One of photography's primary characteristics is that it's prone to subjective tastes.

But as far as talking douchebags... well... I will let your own words stand for themselves.

Really, even if this is indeed internet, good manners are still good manners, sir.

I wholeheartedly agree.

But shooting with a large aperture doesn't necessarily blur the background elements out beyond recognition. Depends on FOV and how you frame your shots.

Wide focal lengths with large apertures keep background elements in the frame, but the large aperture gives a 3 dimensional subject isolation. Loosely framed shots with longer focal lengths achieve the same, with a different FOV.

I agree. Hence, "as such" was included in my words.

Wide focal lengths with large apertures keep background elements in the frame, but the large aperture gives a 3 dimensional subject isolation. Loosely framed shots with longer focal lengths achieve the same, with a different FOV.

Again. I completely agree.

I absolutely like all of your samples, but this one truly captured my intuitive interest. I love how the message is put into portrait.
