And a bit of sad news. This deer was known as Big Head. He past away during the week from wounds suffered from a fight with another deer. I currently own a 1DMKIV and the 70D and have owned a 7D in the past. I have seen a number of posts from folks who do not own the 70D comparing it to the 7D as a good alternative for movies but as not much of an improvement for stills. Well let me be the first to say that, to me at least, the 70D is vastly superior in actual use for BIF in terms of image quality. Maybe my 7D was defective out of the box, but it had way too much noise in the background (particularly the sky) at even 400 ISO. The 70D once it finds focus initially (AI Servo first and second priority are set to slow and fast respectively) it locks on like a pit bull. In fact (here I must reiterate that I own, love and use the 1D MKIV) once it locks the AF on a bird in flight, it is just as effective as the 1D MKIV. I got this camera to shoot family movies and instead I am capturing Kingfishers and Killdeers in flight. Now its not a 1D MKIV. It doesn't have the build or 10 FPS and I wish it had expanded AF points like the 7D and 1D MKIV, but this is a camera (along with a 400mm f/5.6 or 100-400 or even70-300 f4-5.6 L) that can put you into the wildlife business for under $2,500.00 and be able to compete against the big rigs in terms of image quality. That is a good thing for all of us and for our hobby.
