All I can say is if it improves on the previous one I want it.

I'm more interested in this dropping the price of the current 50 1.4 to ~350 new. Much easier to gamble on the focus issues at that price point. I sent 2 copies back, one that even went to sigma and still came back off. (before I got the 6D with MFA) I still miss the size/feel of that lens though, and the images it produced when it did work... a price drop would make me consider it seriously.

I tried 3 Sigma 50's on my 5D3, MA required more than +20 on one of them. If they can fix this issue I will buy, if not then I will pass.

I know the 35 is apparently a great lens, but I can't buy a lens that may fail to focus under some circumstances - my 35L never does.

Hrm,

Guess we'll see how it focuses. I gambled and lost on the last Art series I bought, the 30mm F1.4. Sharp. But man, autofocus issues.

Not too interested in 50mm anyways.

I will however be interested in an 85mm or 135mm F1.4 to F2.0 is Sigma could ever make something like that and compete price-wise with what Canon has in the L glass.

Very best,

Argh....Why was this not a 1.2? I have been waiting for this to come to jump into "My" Prime trinity and it is not 1.2:confused:..........I wonder if it will be better than my current 50 place holder (Pentax super takumar 1.4) Maybe it will be significantly sharper than the 50L at 1.4......

Everything is relative.
Gear: 6D, Unholy Trinity:twisted: (24Lii, sigma 50A, 135L), and for the other ends of the spectrum, sigmaEX 14mm2.8 and sigmaEX 100-300F4.

From DP preview....This sounds better than a typical Sigma refreshing of the old 50 1.4.

"It's a completely new lens, rather than a revision of Sigma's existing 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM, with an unusually complex optical formula for its type (13 elements in 8 groups). It's also rather large, with a strong family resemblance to the excellent 35mm F1.4 DG HSM. Overall this suggests Sigma has adapted an optical design normally used for retrofocal wide angle primes (rather like Zeiss has with the Otus 1.4/55), instead of producing a variant on the double-Gauss formula generally used for 50mm primes. The 50mm F1.4 will be available in Canon, Nikon, Sigma and Sony mounts."

Very best,

If that's the case, my 50 1.2L is no longer nervous...unless this thing has just insane IQ as of f/1.4....

Don't be surprised, as the Sigma 35 is a hell lot sharper @ f1.4 compared to both 35/50L already.

I wouldn't expect anything less with this.

Just sold my Sigma 50 this morning in preparing for this....It's a day 1 purchase for me ;)

The current Sigmalux is pretty sharp with excellent bokeh. I'm not even asking for 35 1.4 Art like sharpness, though it would be a welcome addition, the thing that bothered me with Sigma's 50 was its bi polar AF and it's inability to lock focus under low light, something the 50L does exceptionally well.
