These were the first few shots I took, but it seems to have really good focus but in a strip? Is that because of my settings? I was just wondering because in the spring when I want to shoot flowers & bugs I don't want the focus in a strip?? Thanks in advance for the advice ![]() ![]() ![]() frost ![]() Jennifer Nilsen410 ![]() ![]() ![]() frost ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() frost ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() frost ![]() ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/25440115/11826279185/ ![]() macro ![]() ![]() You may have to learn about focus stacking and get a macro rail. You may also need to try using off camera flash and a tripod so you can stop the lens down to get a wider DOF. Don't go any lower than around f13 though if you want the image to stay sharp ^^ Sony Alpha A7III - Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 - Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro

When shooting 1:1 the DOF literally becomes paper thin, this is why you are only seeing a "strip" in focus. ![]() Ladybug40 ![]() ![]() JD

When shooting 1:1 the DOF literally becomes paper thin, this is why you are only seeing a "strip" in focus. To get more in focus you really have to stop the lens down when you are planning to shoot really close. Unfortunately the trade off is a huge loss of light, either forcing you to slow your SS down, crank your ISO or both. You can combat this by using a flash, or adding more ambient light. An example of opening up the DOF by stopping down and adding flash (diffused) F/9, 1/160SS ,ISO 250 ![]() ![]() Ladybug40 ![]() ![]() Thanks, I'll have to play with more settings & more light. Does your lens move in & out like all other lenses when you focus? I just thought it weird mine doesn't & since I never had a macro lens I didn't know if that was normal? lol. I know with my 50mm you have to move your feet!! Thanks again Jen

Thanks again ![]() All focusing is internal, as with almost all primes (and some zooms) the lens does not extend when focusing, the 50 1.4 prime is one of the only ones i can think of off the top of my head where front element extends while focusing. That's just an alternative though, you can still go for the macro ring light if you like. No problem ^^ Sony Alpha A7III - Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 - Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro

Thought I might try that one. The wireless one didn't last long at all but it was really cheap! I just looked at the one you recommended & it looks good Jen

Pocket Wizard do some entry level triggers that are quite good but I'm not sure what model it is. Sony Alpha A7III - Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 - Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro

This lens is insane with how much detail it shows, I took a few photos of those cheap toys you get from Mcdonalds which showed insane detail on the plastic. The shot above of my cat was actually done using MF which makes me even more happy with this lens since i'm usually hopeless with doing MF through the VF. I can hear the IS quite a bit but that doesn't bother me too much. Either way I can't wait to test this lens ever more! Sony Alpha A7III - Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 - Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro
