Tamron Lenses

It's only fair for me to post this about Tamron. My first Tamron was years ago on an SLR, 300mm zoom, and it was great. With digital I bought the 70-300 VC and was literally blown away at the price point. Then for the past couple weeks I couldnt decide whether to buy the 17-50 non vc because I owned the 18-55. Let me tell you that the lens is wonderful> Colors, contrast and sharpness. I cannot duplicate the lowlight focus problems people talk about either. Tamron has to be the best third part lens manufacturer in the business when it comes to price to quality.

I've had two different versions of their 18-270 and the 17-50 VC; I have no complaints about any of them, as far as image quality, build, etc, either. I'm pretty stoked at the possibilities with the new zoom, too.

I, also, firmly believe that none of the other manufacturers are producing a better image stabilization system. I still maintain that I could fall down stairs with the VC and still take a sharp shot

loved the 17-50 non-vc. Only downside was the sound of the AF motor!

The 70-300 VC is ridiculously sharp in my opinion.

My 70-300vc for price and IQ made me sell my 70-200 f4nonISL. My 17-50nonVC is ridiculously sharp but the focus of it, and my 28-75 are lacking in lower light. In good light, very snappy. It doesn't have an ultrasonic motor of some type so the focus of those lenses isn't on the same level as USM, USD, STM, etc type motors.
I'm a big fan of the colors I get out of Tamron lenses. Mine are all a little warmer than my Canon lenses but it is a pleasing warmth.

I agree BrickR. The color they put out must just be the style I am looking for.

I am a big Tamron fan. IQ/$ is really hard to beat. I would put my 70-200 2.8 up against the white kind happily. I have the Tam 1.4 TC and it is great too. I started with the 70-300VC and got some wonderful pics with it. I have the Big Sig 150-500 but if the new Tam 150-600 has equal IQ and doesn't cost a king's ransom I will likely grab one.

I have an "ancient" in digital terms, Tamron 90mm f/2.8, SP, AF Macro lens and absolutely LOVE IT. Even better, I snagged it on eBay for about a hundred U.S. Dollars. It was my second digital lens and it is still working for me!

No, you don't understand... When I look at a photo, I bring it to 1:1. Unless you actually scaled the photo down, if you just cropped the original, it is 100% crop.

I think the problem is the Shutter Speed... you are probably 2 stops below what it should be and the IS (VC?) is doing its job (that's why I said softish, not soft) but at this kind of magnification and this kind of SS, a little bit of subject movement and a little bit of camera movement, minus the VC compensation gets you there.

It's not a bad shot, it just bothered me that it looked slightly softer than I expected. Enjoy the lens (and don't push your luck with the VC...).

It was cropped and scaled down as well. After I cropped and cropped and the server said it was stil too big, I shrink the photo to 70% then 80% or something similar. I was just getting agitated that the server kept rejecting the image size. Thanks.

Crop to get the framing you want on the image, *then* resize it to get the server to accept it.
