Hey guys, sorry I haven't been around since last spring. Just took the summer off taking pictures, and got back into the swing around October. I am just now getting around to looking through and editing my images, so will be posting much more regularly again.
Finding a Whooping Crane has always been very high on my wish list of birds to find due to their obvious scarcity. As of 2011, there were only 437 reported birds left in the wild. I was driving with a group of friends when I spotted a large white bird hanging out on a ranch in the middle of 15-20 brahma bulls. At first I thought it was a Sandhill, but this bird was just brighter than most Sandhills, even the ones in this area. I turned around and looked and was amazed it was actually a Whooper!
While trying to get closer to this bird, I dropped my lens hood over the barb wire fence encaging the bulls, and I went to grab for the hood and quickly noticed it was an electric fence! Since I shoot a majority of my pictures hand held, I had to run back to the truck to get my monpod, fully extend it, and try to pick up the large metal hood, and not shock myself! I was only able to get 5-6 images before the owners or ranch hands ran me off, but at least I got to see them, and got a decent image as proof!
Hope everyone has been well
