Hi all, long time no speak. I hope 2014 has been kind to everyone thus far...

I've recently met a world renowned (Africa based) wildlife photographer who is running a photography workshop in Oxford in early March. I told him about the Canon photography forum Jonathan and I belong to and I'm trying to convince him to run a similar workshop in the south-east.

He's offering a one- and/or two-day course at £90 a day. Bearing in mind this is tutelage from one of the world's top wildlife photographers, I think he's giving it away.

Of course, Jonathan and I want to do this workshop but to make it financially viable for this chap, the numbers need to increase. So, by a show of hands, who's interested in attending such a course in the south-east?

one off fee definitely. They might only sell 20.

they're nice but what market are they aiming for - not sure I'd wear a t shirt with a photo of a girl on it?

Thanks - he's awesome, perhaps when he's a little more mature and comfortable being handled I'll arrange something that those of a macro persuasion can get involved with!

in other news that photo won me Wex Photographics weekly twitter photo comp - so I'm feeling even more proud of little Noel

Hi people. Not posted here for a while but have a question.

I'm off to Mexico on the 23rd for 2 weeks with my dad and am wondering what Camera to take. It'll be the first time we have been away together since I was at school .

I can borrow Nicki's Olympus OMD-E5 with its kit 12-50mm lens (effectively a 24-100) or, I can take the 5D3 and the 24-105. the OMD is a lot lighter and smaller but will I miss the IQ from the Canon. Just can't decide.....
We are staying with friends in Merida and whatever I take will be safe unless we are out and about which will be most of the time.

What would you take?

Been a while so I had better post a photo or two, first time in a studio

I much prefer the first image, the overall 'look' is more pleasing and feminine compared to the rather harsher lighting on the second one.....also the slight glimpse of the eyes in the first adds a demure she just looked away before you took the picture.

Went along to Bourne End, borrowed and donned a pair of waders and ventured into the swollen upper reaches of the Thames (normally a barely moving stream, now a raging torrent) with my precious camera in hand (eek!). I loved the waders - what an amazing invention!

Last image shows what this meadow looks like when it's not a lake suitable for sailing on. I found it hard to capture the raging waters of the Thames itself, which was one of my initial aims.

What a great opportunity for exposure.......perhaps you should exhibit the originals in the shop. As for payment, well as mentioned a per T depends on how many sold but you could find out the selling price and the print run and whether it will be a one off run (just thinking out loud if they are printing 100 and selling for £30 maybe you should get £5 per T and thus £500) but the risk is theirs as to whether they sell the whole 100 but you should be paid on the print run not on the sales success!!! Just a thought???

Welcome back

Sounds great and having looked at the programme on the website Day 2 would have limited value to me I do bot use a laptop for editing..........still thinking whether I could make Day1 though. NB his website says 8th & 9th of March. Edit ~~ doh, I see the dates are irrelevant as you are encouraging him to do a session 'down here' in the SE...............so yes, I would be interested with the same provisio mentioned above re no laptop.

5D and all kit is now insured for a year plus worldwide travel up to 30 days plus £1m public liability, all for £140

Was quoted over £220 for same cover by 2 other companies so have treated myself to another 32gb SD card for the trip.

Enjoy the trip and just (as usual) be aware of those around you & your surroundings..........​.....but you did say you be visiting family or was it friends so I surmise they will know the best & not best places to go and be carefull "at".

Incidently, could you say which insurer and as a tourist I wonder why the PLI part of the cover???

Thanks BB, Can't wait to get out there. Merida is supposed to be very cultural unlike Mexico City.

PLI is because I want to get into trackside shooting at smaller events. Thruxton and Goodwood are within 3/4 of an hour and I now have a media accreditation for Goodwood, am talking to Thruxton later today.

Company was Eversure based in Guildford.
