I understand that if you are talking about a VERY limited run, or the first batch or whatever, but man that doesn't make any more sense beyond the first week or two of release since Amazon has such a huge marketshare, and they obviously carry Tamron lenses. Of course there could be some behind the scenes dealings... hard to believe the unseen hand of market economics suddenly stopped working :-)

Guess we will know in a few days haha

Yup. My personal (completely uninformed) guess is that Tamron's pre-orders from other retailers already covered every unit Tamron could make, and with higher margins than they would get from Amazon. I'm sure once the initial surge from early adopters buying from Adorama, B&H, Hunts, etc is over, Amazon will have them.

Gripped 7D, gripped, full-spectrum modfied T1i (500D), SX50HS, A2E film body, Tamzooka (150-600), Tamron 90mm/2.8 VC (ver 2), Tamron 18-270 VC, Canon FD 100 f/4.0 macro, Canon 24-105 f/4L,Canon EF 200 f/2.8LII, Canon 85 f/1.8, Tamron Adaptall 2 90mmf/2.5 Macro, Tokina 11-16, Canon EX-430 flash, Vivitar DF-383 flash, Astro-Tech AT6RC and Celestron NexStar 102 GT telescopes, various other semi-crappy manual lenses and stuff.

The next wave of shipments will likely be to other countries and for other mounts. It could be in short supply for a few months.

I'm sure if people realllly want it right now they'll pay the extra to import even with import tax. What's VAT, 17%?

In Hungary (my old country) VAT is 27%. It's a shame.

Tamron is ignoring the biggest online retailer on the planet? That seems hard to believe!

Right now, I would think Tamron is in a panic to try to figure out how to make enough lenses - any production line they may have for smaller lenses aren't usable for this lens and I bet they are a bit shocked by all the interest in this lens.

Yeah I don't know why Tamron isn't selling this on Amazon, thats odd. I just ordered mine thru adorama, as I called B&H and they said I wouldn't be in the first order. Adorama only had 50 pre-orders so I felt I had a better shot with them, plus I got 1% off thru a ref. site that I'm on.

I just placed an order with Adorama and I hope your right, they are one of my all time favorites

Thanks to the person who posted this on another forum, $1199.95. Pretty good price for local Aus stock
http://www.teds.com.au/tamron-150-600mm-canon (external link)

Definitely very appealing at that price but gah still no real, experienced reviews to go off to see whether if it does achieve that job of a $2000+ lens, gah

I ordered it at B&H, had to pay 59$ of shipping costs and expect a 8% VAT on top of the price and some 2% for import/post taxes. It will still be slightly cheaper than what I could find here.

Nice.

They should be rolling in this weekend! I hope to see it in the hands of some really great shooters to see what it's fully capable of.

If your Manhattan trip had been a month or two later, you could have picked it up in person! ;)

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I've learnt to disregard bad sample photos of a lens. I always consider the best samples. It's easy to screw up a shot and get a bad image but you can't "fake" a good one. While there is a lot in the air about this lens still, I've seen enough good samples to see what it is capable of (potentially).
DC Fever samples are pretty good, the samples from that review with the Chinese lady as a model are good too. (these links were posted earlier several times)
And even in this latest Flickr group of images, the clock tower (the full image and not the comparison shots) looks good enough for me.

I find those steeple clock samples pretty good actually. If people call the wide open shots as non-starters, then they better look at lenses at twice the price. Even the bigger, well rated Sigmas (50-500, 120-300) have a slight halo-ing fully wide open say like the f/7.1 shot for a visual comparison.

I'd rather some closer range shots though, on not so contrasty subjects which includes text on solid colour signs, and black & white clock or grids. Stuff like feather and fabrics are what I'm hoping pops up soon, and not so distant like the clock shots (pretty far if that's 100% crop) to minimize atmospheric factors too.
