Well the trip is on for this week (4 days) .... roughly a 10 hour drive from east Tennessee, but it looks like the weather may cooperate, maybe the westerly winds will be a little more than hoped for (breezy). From all that I have read in this topic thread the temps and wind direction look positive

Now if the eagles cooperate ...... I might get lucky and catch a good image or two :)

Fri Jan 17 / Partly Cloudy

Partly Cloudy
Chance of snow:0%
Wind:WNW at 18 mph

Sat Jan 18

Sun Jan 19

Mostly Sunny
Chance of precip:0%
Wind:W at 9 mph

Mon Jan 20
31°/ 16°
Partly Cloudy
Chance of precip:10%

My niece and her husband are in town from East London, SA and he was telling me about all the eagles they have down there. We don't get that variety here.

Must admit we have a vast variety but there is something about capturing a Bald Eagle with a fish in the talons with ice/snow around!

I had the chance to spend last weekend at L&D 14. Not a lot of action but it was still fun. Here's a couple shots i got.

Really leaning toward driving down there tomorrow. For those L&D veterans, how do you think it's looking (I've not been there before)? Not really sure what conditions are optimal, besides a good cold snap to freeze other stretches of the river.

Also: does there seem to be am optimal time of day (i.e., should I try to be there early AM, mid-day, all day, etc.)?

I'm sure this info is in this thread someplace, but at 100+ pages, seems easier to have it restated.

Hope to meet several of you this weekend!

Since you are on the Iowa side later afternoon light is best. Earlier in the day you might get some shots of eagles up in the trees by the parking lot. It has been warmer this week I don't have a good feeling about it. I had been thinking about giving it another try but I might wait and see what another week brings.

For me the die is cast. My wife and I will make the 5 hour trip tomorrow and hope for the best. 2011 was my last time there and it was fantastic. Met SteveJa and Katodog during that time and hope to meet other members tomorrow.

It was tough to shoot this morning, very overcast and not much action close by. Good luck to you guys this weekend.

Nice captures! I won't have a 500, so need to hope they'll be closer. Will be happy w/ the weekend if I get some shots like these.
