Well, I got it! Kenmore Camera had them instock today, locally. I emailed them earlier in the day, because I had a feeling, and they responded and said they got it in a few min earlier.

Initial thoughts:

- This is pretty light! At least, lighter than I expected. I feel its the same weight as the 70-200 2.8 II, or 300 F/4 with 1.4x converter III. Maybe even lighter than I remember the 70-200 being.

- Build quality seems pretty good to me. Zoom ring is slightly stiff, but I dont mind it at all. Focus ring feels good as well.

- IS/VC doesn't have the bullet time like my 70-200 F/4 L IS has, but I was getting pretty sharp images... indoors, at 600, wide open at around 1/80th sec .... But obviously I gotta do more tests.

- Balance is not bad, but would be better on a 7D or something heavier, vs. my 60D.

- Tripod collar feels nice and sturdy, I like it.

Overall, so far I'm happy, but we will see how it goes. I got a 3 day weekend coming up, woo!, and i think it might be sunny.

I'll test this against my 70-200 F/4, handheld on and a tripod and see what happens.

Anyone else who lives in WA, call/go to Kenmore Camera quick!

Edit: Also the Focus seems pretty fast to me. Maybe not quite as fast as my 70-200 but I feel pretty close.....

Congrats.

I will call them tomorrow see I can get one myself. :) Do you know if all they have are for those pre ordered only or do they have extra for those who did not pre ordered?

Cool! Looking forward to your report! Maybe you can borrow Peter's 2X TC and compare it to your 70-200 + 2X TC.

I don't mind if he wants to borrow it. I am planning to stop by Juanita bay this Saturday around noon.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if they even had pre-orders at Kenmore. I just emailed them 2 weeks ago about it, and then they said they would call me. I was the first one to buy one today/ask about it.

They were testing the lens today they said, with some birds, and said it was fast to focus/felt good. They were all very interested in the lens at the store.

I'm planning to get some bird shots/ect on Saturday/this weekend on the lake.

By the way, Paolo (Dolina) has already started a thread in the Lens Sample section of the forum for this lens. It's here: https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1348082

I have one on hold, and will be going in to check it out Saturday morning. If it passes first muster in the store I'll buy and take down to Juanita Bay.

I picked up mine today from Hoopers Camera in Thousand Oaks, CA. I was able to get a couple of shots inside with the ISO cranked way up and the VC seemed to work amazingly well. I will go out to morrow and get some shots and see how well t works.

I think someone in a review mentioned it, when u zoom this thing, it's like it never ends. Lol. I think "I gotta be almost to 600" and it keeps going. Which is a good thing in a way. I've only experience 420mm so far in a lens on my camera.
