Talking of which.......Anyone got any advise on getting Media Passes? Apparently Brands Hatch require £5m and proof of which publication you work for!!

Afternoon everyone. Spurred by the fact that my hometown was recently voted the UK ugliest town, I recently started a project entitled Hometown Glory to try and highlight some of the more attractive parts of the town! The project is still in it's infancy, but i've been out shooting pretty much everyday for the last week/10 days and i've managed to get a solid basis to start from, below is one of the shots. If anyone is interest in the "unsung beauty of Hemel Hempstead" (and why wouldn't you be!? ) feel free to check the site out project out here.

Hopefully this'll also give me an excuse to post here for frequently, instead of every know and then as has been the case!

What a great opportunity for exposure.......perhaps you should exhibit the originals in the shop. As for payment, well as mentioned a per T depends on how many sold but you could find out the selling price and the print run and whether it will be a one off run (just thinking out loud if they are printing 100 and selling for £30 maybe you should get £5 per T and thus £500) but the risk is theirs as to whether they sell the whole 100 but you should be paid on the print run not on the sales success!!! Just a thought???

Having chatted with the guy it's a cut for each shirt sold I'm not sure how things are going to pan out with this as he's just starting out with it along side his web and graphic design business the way I'm looking at it is it's not costing me anything so I'm not going to be out of pocket with it. From what I've seen he works mainly for the alternative market so fingers crossed that his new venture takes off.

Hey bud,

I am covered by Ageas via a broker called B Portwood & Co Ltd tel: 0844 826616, I have 5 million PLI cover for around £80 a year. Probably not the cheapest but they have always been very polite and courteous and don't bombard you with mails or calls etc which makes a refreshing change. A few others use a company called 'Simply Business' not had any dealings so can't comment.

As for what MSV require, Brands etc - it is getting tougher every season (you would think after 5 years they would make it easier) this is the 'rough' run down:

· 12 examples of published work from a broad range of events.
· Public liability insurance of a minimum £5 million if photographic/film access is required at any stage during the season.
· Covering letter from the editor/director of a recognised media outlet.
· Analytic figures from any applicant representing an online publication.

It took me over three years to get in but that's just the easy part, keeping it is where the fun starts.

Hi Lawrence, I would image few, if any of us, use a laptop for editing. Being more portable than a desktop me thinks he asks that you bring a laptop so he can demonstrate the editing process, the skills of which you can then use on your desktop.

Sounds great and having looked at the programme on the website Day 2 would have limited value to me I do bot use a laptop for editing..........still thinking whether I could make Day1 though. NB his website says 8th & 9th of March. Edit ~~ doh, I see the dates are irrelevant as you are encouraging him to do a session 'down here' in the SE...............so yes, I would be interested with the same provisio mentioned above re no laptop.

Question for those who sell prints: I'm thinking of perhaps dipping my toe into the world of making a bit of money from photography. Not that interested (at the moment at least) in doing weddings or studio-type work. Just maybe exhibiting some works at a gallery/art shop for sale. Not looking at it as a source of steady income or anything. Has anyone here done anything like it? Any thoughts, tips, dos and don'ts? What's the best way to get started (other than visiting some galleries/shops and presenting your portfolio)?
