I posted this in the Studio lighting dog section too... with a different photo.

As a test, my wife and I volunteered at a local animal shelter photographing the animals to see if it could increase the adoption rate.... and for marketing. We are giving a personal use copyright release and printing instructions of each photo with an adoption. The photos have been shared on their Facebook page and being added to their website, having been only two days they have had a huge increase in adoptions/inquires displaying only 4 photos so far. This will be a monthly thing for us now, and we hope others may do this too. As a bonus, (which we were hoping for) has already lead to paying jobs.

We photographed around 20 cats and 4 dogs. It's much harder for them to photograph camera shy cats, for us it was harder to get the hyper dogs. We use a camper table for the small animals about 36" in diameter and only about 16" tall... Tip for cats, have an assistant that plays with and pets it for a few minutes until it relaxes, then it's pretty easy.

Lighting is a Alien Bee B800 with a 64" PLM to my left (or directly behind me depending on angle of subject), a flash fill from high behind the subject right. The background is simply a wall that I dodge and burned. For the background editing I used Topaz Labs Remask for a very quick separation of the subject from the background (quick as in 30 seconds).

They have a 'cat' room which worked well to setup for them too. I will be editing a couple photos for them each day, here is the gallery so far. http://www.ienvisionphoto.com …neSociety/36071254_rxwfM5 (external link)

TroyRaymond----What great shots:) It's nice of you & your wife to volunteer. That must have been very hard to capture the shots, especially when the cats/dogs are skiddish & don't want to be bothered!! Great work.

Nice, Jason. That shot reminds me of one of mine (external link) from a while back. I love it when they 'pose' in front of a glass door or window like that (and I have a camera).

I may be fascinated with volcanoes, but the name's Lisa.

New kittens Ginger and Raffles in their secret cave on my wife's desk - hand held, low light. Naturally I couldn't get them both to cooperate at the same time:

It was quite easy once we figured out how. Simply play with them and get them comfortable on the table, let them relax and start taking photos. Only one out of the bunch was really skiddish and avoided people.

It was our pleasure. Great fun! (even though I'm severely allergic, the shelter was very well taken care of)
