Would be cool if there was a way to whatever the equivalent is to "liking" a post. There are a lot of images posted that are incredible but it's often hard to let those people know if there post is a couple pages back

The new version will have a like button. Announced here. Instead of improvements in the current board, what's next is a completely new software foundation.

PRONOUN ADVISORY: OhLook is a she. | A FEW CORRECT SPELLINGS: lens, aperture, amateur, hobbyist, per se, raccoon, whoa, more so (2 wds.), shoo-in | Comments welcome

Folks have always had the option of leaving positive, constructive comments that convey opinions or provide useful information. IMO I feel that's more meaningful than the click of a "like."

"Like" it or not, "likes" are the buttons du jour.

Well, I cannot disagree with you there - it certainly is today's fad; reminds me of the old popularity contests back in high school. I only suggest that it is a shallow statement about the image with no useful commentary about what makes it good, bad or indifferent. That being said I realize I'm in the minority viewpoint here ;)

I suspect that Likes will be mainly used to Like posts and not images or at least that is what I hope will happen. One could envision that conversations in the future might amount to clicking a bunch of different buttons to express ideas. Eventually, it would evolve into the equivalent of typing words sort of like the way that cave drawings evolved into written words to add depth and details to what we want to say.
