Happy Saturday everyone,

I am finally going to pull the trigger on the Canon 100-400 from B&H and I see where they offer an extended warranty through square trade I believe, but it comes with a 287.00 dollar price tag.

I'm wondering how many folks go with the extended warranty when they buy an expensive lens.

Thanks in advance for your comments and thoughts.

Mike

Personally, I never purchase an extended warranty on anything. IMO it's a waste of money. Your lens will be just fine as long as you don't drop it.

Before ordering the 100-400, consider the new Tamron 150-600. It is $1069.

Hi MCAsan,

I just started to see the buzz about the 150-600. So hard to pick one over the other, the 100-400 has been around for a long time and has good track record, and the 150-600 is so new and may have some issues to workout.

Given that the 100-400 costs 1/3 more new and has 150mm less range, you might wait for the reviews that will start to appear next week before making a purchase.
