The good thing about having a camera with you when you are out and about is that you can capture those special moments when they occur to help keep the memory alive for ever.

I snapped this pic of my daughter today whilst we were out wake boarding, and although Danica has been riding a wakeboard for quite a few years now, she had never tried a wake skate before. Getting up on these things is like trying to stand on ice with grease covered feet.

Danica was up and riding after just a couple of attempts and my camera captured her joy in doing so!

The other good thing about having a camera on hand is that I can also capture moments like this one too.

She looks more like an Olympic sprinter jumping out of the blocks rather than someone about to stack it on a wake skate.

And to be fair, I had better post a pic of her in control of her wakeboard too.

Doofuss and Gape,

Nice pics

Here's first try on Junior Soccer match. Since my 5DII is not a great performer for Fast moving subject, I am impressed by the lense performance.

Good news! Just heard back from sigma about my lens and according to them "there is no point repairing my lens so the will just replace it!" They didn't specify which lens it would be... Hopefully the new sports *fingers crossed* but it's probably not gonna happen :(

Gabe, a question: you recently mentioned the reliability of this lens is questionable. Could you elaborate?

This is the only higher end telephoto that is within my budget so reliability is obviously an important factor for me.

Lots of reports (I'm one of them) of AF malfunction and some OS too.
I truly love this lens, it's awesome, but not sure how long it will last. Hopefully, the new "Sport" version is more reliable, although it's pretty similar to my version (OS, non-sport). Roger Cicala of Lensrentals said that for example the OS unit is interchangeable and has even the same part number, if I remember correctly.

Gabe,

Excellent photographs as usual. I'm working on getting there with what I have. I have a ways to go. Your work is an inspiration to me. Thanks so much for the time you take to post your photographs and your willingness to help others.

Thanks also for answering my question about the Sigma 120-300. I'll most likely end up with a Canon 400 f/5.6 first but then I'll start saving for the Sigma. I have read they are making a huge effort to improve the quality of their lenses. We can only hope they will achieve this goal.

Kim, that's a good plan. While you have the 400 5.6L, you can also experiment and practice how to best setup your shots, get closer to birds etc. That's at least half the success :)

Paul, these are crops, about 30-50%. When I calculate these percentages, I consider how many megapixel the image becomes after cropping, then calculate percentage. For example if I crop a 20mp 70D image (5474 wide) to about 3888 wide, while keeping the 3:2 ratio, I know that the cropped image is 10mp (that's the 40D's frame width in pixels). So then I just state it was a 50% crop, since I cropped away 50% of the image (20mp --> 10mp)
I know I've just answered a question nobody had asked but just for heck of it :)

I'm glad you answered in that way. Now if I could only understand the pixel relationships and calculations. :o
