I'm looking for an ultrawide in the 17-21mm range. It has to be under $500-600, sharp in corners, will take f2.8 or f4, and I have no problem with manual or automatic (can be an older film lens like a zuiko with adaptation.

One lens that caught my eye is the Canon 20mm 2.8. I don't see it on here very often, but it seems to have reasonable sharpness in picture, but then in reviews, it says otherwise.

Any other ideas?

Canon 6D, Canon L 24-105, Zeiss Distagon 28mm 2.8, Planar 50mm 1.4, Planar 85mm 1.4, Sonnar 135mm 2.8 & Zeiss Mutar 2x, Canon 50mm 1.8

Look for a used Tokina 16-28. It is exactly what you're looking for. New it goes for $700.

Do you need filters or not ? This Tokina doesn't accept them...

It's hard to say.. at 17-21mm, I'm assuming that a polarizing filter would actually be uneven and distort a bit.
I have only read about these uw lenses, but never used them.
I'd prefer a prime over a zoom, solely for the added iq...

I was looking at the canon 20 vs the sigma 20..
Looks like the contax zeiss 18mm f4 is very soft in the corners. 21mm distagon is the winner, but out of my price range at this point.

I have to do more research on the olympus zuiko 21mm 3.5.. they go for around $350-550.. For 99% of my landscape shots, it's set at infinity, so manual focus isn't an issue at all.
