Great images guys! It is going to be super cold this week, which might bring the ice back to the river. I was there yesterday and there was some good fishing action most of the afternoon. I haven't been able to edit many yet but here are a couple from yesterday.

What is the lens of choice for these shots? 100-400mm, with or without an extender?

I use a 400mm f/5.6 prime. I know many guys have good success with the 100-400 as well. I have a 1.4 extender but it won't work on the 400mm f/5.6 without losing autofocus so I don't use it. You could look at the 300mm f/4 IS and use the 1.4 extender with that to get nice reach and still keep autofocus. I love the sharpness and speed of the 400mm f/5.6 so I opted that route instead of a 300 with the 1.4extender. I recommend renting a lens or two for your eagle shooting trips to try it out first.

I can't afford one of the big lenses so I shoot with the 400 5.6 as well. It does a pretty good job in good light.

A couple more. Re: lenses. I had pretty good luck w/ my 300 2.8 IS & a 2x converter. I think I'll follow the rental advice next time I go & try a 500; the IQ loss from the 2x converter bothers me a bit.
