Check out Lynda.com - they had some excellent courses back when I was learning it all.

No sports photography as such, just weddings for paid work and then pits and pieces here and there for the hobby side of things. DR is always a plus for me.

The focus peaking has be very interested, means I could buy some nice MF glass also..

I hate this point of upgrading, its meant to be exciting. But your always thinking whether something better will come along the next day.

I'm enjoying mine. Like your OMD, you can use just about any old lens on the A7r and with the Metabones Smart adaptor you can at the least control the aperture of your EF mount lenses and get exif info from the lens too.

It is really a camera for controlled situations as you're either going to be manual focussing or using the slow contrast detect AF. Slower on contrast detect than the EM5

Also, what they say about the Metabones EF smart adaptor being slow to focus is so true. It's not terrible for portraits or subjects that aren't moving but if the lens has a half decent focus ring, it can be quicker to use the focus magnification anyway.

I'm struggling with the focus peeking (medium shows more in focus than actually is and low hardly shows anything in focus - it'd be nice if there was a level in between) and relying on focus mag instead.

Stop down metering is pretty well spot on IMO and Auto ISO works as it should. The dials which I first thought were a bit square and clunky aren't a problem for me any more and not uncomfortable in the slightest.

The EVF is also cool in that you can do most everything through the eyepiece that you can on the back screen and at least for me is almost as good as an optical finder. Good enough that I hardly notice.

I don't think it would be a replacement for your 5D2 if you used AF alot and are used to quick-ish AF but if you are planning on changing over to MF (leaving af duties to your OMD), it will be an excellent replacement. On the other hand, if you just want to experience MF, the OMD will mount pretty much anything the A7r will, with the added bonus that you already have it and only need adaptors and will only be using the sweet spot of those MF lenses. The sensor would be the only reason to go the Sony over the OMD, since you already have it I think.

But if you want it, grab one and redeem the EF smart adaptor quick smart before Sony runs out

Hope that helps

Thats for the long reply, indeed the sensor is what I need - the O-MD is great, but the Micro four thirds sensor I have found is not. Just too small to get any of the real depth of field I like with prime lenses.

I could also sell off some lenses and get the Sony adapter and use A mount lenses, will that help the AF speeds significantly? However, AF isn't the end of the world for me.

Where is the EF smart adapter deal still on? Sony website only lists battery grip as a bonus accessory.
