Anyone that says they like snow, is more than welcome to come get all they want from Edmonton.
And it can quit raining any time it likes as well. What's with rain in December and January anyways?

And Happy New Year to you all, too.

Hey guys, it seems this thread is some what gathering dust but figured I might post any ways! I live in Edmonton, and it's not very photogenic at the moment with the nasty dirt snow and what not. None of my friends are remotely into photography so I am pretty much out here learning this stuff on my own :oops:

Welcome to the madness YEGenesis.

I moved here from Vancouver to Red Deer 4+ years ago. And you are right it's a little bit more challenging trying to get out and shoot. But I blame it on inspirational rather than lack of things to shoot. Maybe that's why I am trying to get into macro more. So that I do't have to go outside to shoot.

One question for you guys tho. Where do you guys go to buy your camera toys? I've been going to Calgary whenever I need to get new lens or bodies. I'm not that impress with McBains.

really depends on what toys i'm looking for.

if its light stands, umbrella's, strobes, etc.. then i go to strobepro here in calgary.

pretty much everything else is a toss up between the camera store and vistek.

i have also bought quite a bit at london drugs, they often have surprisingly good prices, I bought a 6D before christmas, they were $150 less than anywhere else..

I haven't wandered doing strobes yet so I was not aware of Strobepro. But thanks for that info. I saw that they carry Yongnuo products and * they have the 560III on sale for $100 bucks. Maybe it's time to get one ;)

I'm not very particular, I also buy from LD, Futureshop/BB, Costco and the likes but only when they are on sale. I'd like to have a go-to store when I have camera related questions that I'd like to bounce off them. So far it's TheCameraStore.

By the way TheCameraStore & Vistek are taking preorder on the new Tamron 150-600mm lens but only Vistek has a price. Anyways I'm keeping an eye on this lens but not really want to be the first guy to get one.

EDIT: * end up getting the YN-565ex last night because it has TTL.

I need an advise from the Calgarian crowd.

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on the Tamron 150-600mm. I can't wait any longer so I'm going to pre-order.

Which store do you think is better, The Camera Store or Vistek?

When I'm looking for something, I tend to check all the stores, as I find that prices
can be all over the places, and change on a weekly basis. I also like Memory Express
for their Price Matching. I was able to pick up a T5i with both kit lenses18-55/55-250,
bag and monopod a few weeks ago, for $766.25 because they were $1379.00 and a
bunch of other places had it for $889.00.

@Ian,
you are right about LD but I find it's more a hit & miss. I don't always read the flyers so sometimes I see it after the fact. And ME don't have that much stock. Especially the lens that I want. I don't even see them carrying Tamron.

@Evan
For this particular lens. I think I got it down to either The Camera Store or Vistek. I just want to hear customer experience between the two stores. At Vistek I had good experience with the downtown people but I am constantly walking away not happy at the Willow Park branch. So far I've been happy with The Camera Store except for a small misunderstanding (but in the end was resolved) on my last purchase. Therefore that's why I want to hear from people that shops there.
