If I had the parts I would not hesitate to try to fix it myself (its already broken). Would be a cool project to document the steps in video or a blog...

I say Swap the Parts they have to be replaced anyway. If that dont fix Theres gotta be sombody who has another with Busted externals and You get to say "I fixed it!!"

If it doesn't power on, I would guess you have a busted board of some sorts.

Why did you buy it if you knew all these things were wrong?

I just bought a totally dead T1i/18-55 on CL for $35. Sold the lens on CL for $50. Sold the body on E-bay for $95, for parts. Minus E-bay/PP fees, I netted $95 on the deal. That is a decent dinner 'round these parts. Or gas for about 3 days.

That's what I was willing to do, but lets say I put 250$ on parts/installation and it doesn't solves the problem, I don't know what it will cost further in the repair ... The main PCB is not cheap ! I just rather having it checked for a detailed estimate at sun camera or a specialized repair shop here.

Nice shot ! I'm not up to the point of selling it on ebay, but for sure I could have an excellent profit selling it even as-is.

Little update for anyones reference !

Got the estimate from Sun Camera pretty fast upon receiving the unit. Final diagnostic : Back Cover Ass'y W/O TFT, LCD Window, Window Tape, and .............. Main PCB Board needs to be replaced !

Total comes up to 600$ including parts (345$), labour (160$), shipping (30$), cleaning, check and adjustments, and tax.

Much higher cost than I had expected (who am I to estimate repair costs lol) but I will get the camera repaired for sure,

ending up with a 5D mark ii under 700$

Looking forward to some shots with it. Just wondering, did they mention anything about the battery/CF card components?

CF card slot is part of the main board....

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", 1D MK II (broken), and an M5, along with a M6 destined for 720nm
