I'm really getting fed posting my next shoot, only to find out that I'm not on the list or some other lame excuse like the venue didn't have a list for photographers. Though this time I've got someone's contact number, so if anything goes wrong......

This time it's Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks

I feel your pain mate. Sometimes I book time off work to turn up and then find out that despite email and phone confirmation, they forgot to add me to the list.

Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks played here on Tuesday should be a good gig.

For me I have 3 gigs next week but I'm taking the Mrs or going with friends so not shooting. Also the website I used to shoot for is not communicating with me so I need to directly contact the bands or the venues more than ever. Don't have any real confirmations until Feb so I'm going to take a break, do some other stuff for a bit and work out what new gear I can buy with my work bonus ( Eventually may get the 60d and a wide angle zoom )

I know I'm not the only one who goes through this, but it seems like it's too often for me

In my case it might be that I've annoyed a few people who happen to have control over lots of stuff up here. By annoyed I mean sending an email then a follow up 7 days later...( oh and the thread I posted on this forum a few weeks back hasn't helped either )

Luckily because I use to play in bands myself I have friends who get me passes, as they are promoting bands or running studios etc, and some up and coming bands also like my stuff so they are getting me contacts too. But I'm starting to feel that I need to start shooting in other places to get away from the people who have a lot of control here.

All I can say is that I love trying to shoot bands live, I'll do it in a basement with a new band, or in a large venue with an old band. We all go through periods of doubt and dry spells, but if we keep going it will get better.

I know what you mean about those bands who don't have the coverage, those bands are hard to find as most have a photographer already and the rest expect freebies, which I feel I can no longer do. I don't mind something like a few bucks out of it (and I don't mean by a fiver), but they constantly drone on about having no budget. Plus, I've never had a problem with other photographer, despite what you might see on here, I can be stubborn in my views, but in real life, I'm easy going. I don't have a problem with the people behind the scenes i.e. those who manage their publicity/management, I have never sent a rude message to anyone who deals with them, despite most of the time I get refused, this is the crux of why I get annoyed with them when they "forget" to put my name on the list. I can easily deal with them coming back to me saying, "look I'm sorry but the list is full"

Lloyd Cole and the Leopards on Wed 29th, then a small local band called Rain on 30th. Got a small record company festival thing to cover in Feb and a large punk revue in March. Looking good so far.
