This was a simple shot for a simple purpose that turned out well in my head. Please critique it as is, but what I'm really interested in knowing is how it communicates. How do you read the subject? What is your impression of who he is and what he does? I'm guessing that the responses will be dead opposite of the truth, but I'm hoping they're not.

I can't resist mentioning that there's one thing in the photo that's purposefully left out.

He looks like one "cool guy!" The only thing I keep thinking when I look at this picture... For some reason I keep looking to see where his other ear is... I know it's the angle, but I keep going to back to it?!?!

That ear bugs me too. But to the OP's question what does he do (besides pose for earless photos) - well let's eliminate a few professions first: I'd say he is not an NFL football coach, nor is he a Sumo wrestler, ballet dancer (the beard would never cut it), religious guru (beard too short). So that leaves musician or dog-trainer. I'd go with musician.

ASL Interpreter? Just thought of that since we are looking for a new Interpreter service where I work. O and the ear thing.

Artist or performer of some sort.

Has attitude and it appears he is confident enough to back it up.

The hat/beret says musician, but the scarf says artist. So I'll say a music writer.

Defintely an artist, and I think this is very well shot. Love the DOF and how crisp it is, and I love how you kept his face a mystery but that glimmer of light just catches his eye, makes it pop.

Is he an organ donor, and the organ that he donated is the one that's been "purposefully left out"? I mean, if that's the case-then your positioning of the subject truly is brilliant! ;-)a Okay, in all (or at least somewhat) seriousness; I don't know too many men (although take this with a grain of salt since most of the men I know and have known are in the military) that would wear that hat and/or that scarf. These two accessories tend to lead me to the same conclusion as most of the others posters...either he's a musician or an artist. Or he could be homeless-which could still fall in line with him being a musician or an artist. Whatever he is or does, he appears to be an nice, interesting, and intelligent man to me. Oh! And overall composition-wise, I like this image.

FYI: "Fitness Freak" is also known as "Amber" outside of POTN.
