I am sure you or most people have that scar that they are proud of and the story to go with it falling of your bike at 12 Years old going down a hill .

I guess same kind or thing .

I would like it if all my gear was scratch, mark, or nick free...but from using it, those things are bound to happen...and that doesn't bother me. I do clean my lenses after each time of use, just like the painter cleans his....but cleaning tools will not prevent them from being scratched or marked, it just makes the tools that much easier to use. Same thing with car mechanics. Their tools are bound to be dinged and scratched, but most mechanics clean off their wrenches to get the grease or dirt off them, making them easier to use. And it's all proper maintenance. Over time and the more you use something, the more worn it will look. Consider guitars as well....some of the best sounding and easiest playing guitars are pretty beat up cosmetically from use or age...but functionality is good as new (and a lot of times, better, with the way guitars are made). Again, I won't purposely scratch or "relic" my lenses or anything else, but I'll take proper care and maintenance of them to make sure the performance of them is exceptional.

a lot of pros with the best gear have no intention of selling their stuff too, so resale value is a thought far, far to the back of their minds.

when i had a rebel, a 30d, a 7d, and even a 5d mark ii, i always thought "okay i'll upgrade again in a year or two"

but not anymore. my current body will be relevant for a long long time.
that's 10x as true for lenses.

Anyone got a Sigma 30mm 1.4 ART mounted on a 60D? Wanna see how the two pair with each other.
