These are my favorites from my first telephoto (Canon 90-300mm f4.5-5.6), I have since upgraded but I used this lens for about 2 years, I think it did a good enough job for a lens that was £20

Great thread. It just goes to show you dont have to spend a lot of money to get fantastic shots.

This was taken with my Pancake lens. No used much but its never really disappointed other than in AI Servo mode.

The Mk1 I presume by the wheels. A mate of mine had a 3.0 litre one with an awesome body kit on back in the early eighties. Some kind of replica of a model Ford produced. Many of my friends had them in various guises throughout the eighties, I had the Mk1 Opel Manta instead :D

Interesting thread.

Most pictures on the thread seem to be taken with one of 4 lenses: the EFS 18-55; EFS 55-250; EF 50 "nifty fifty"; or the EF 40 "pancake".
Total cost (new) of ALL FOUR lenses is less than £500.
Even then you won't "need" all four.

Given the quality of some of the pictures on this thread you have to wonder why are so many forumites are so eager to "upgrade" from them?

For the zooms the easy answer is constant and wider apertures. And the 55-250 just can't compare to the 70-200 II in terms of sharpness, bokeh, and additional IS quality and features.

For the fixed focal lengths the only real reason is wider aperture and the hope of sharper images wide open.

But that's just my opinion :-)

AF is usually faster, quieter and more accurate - Also better build and better weather resistance in most cases.

One thing I didn't like about the old lot lens are the rotating from elements. Made it difficult to use some filters.
