Mark, I saw the photos from your copy. Did you see my comment? Love the shots, especially of the pug. :)

Jenn, thanks for the nice comment. Sorry I missed it! Gotta say, I love this lens, but not sure I need it. I'm thinking a 100-400L would fit my needs better, so might try to trade this lens for one of those. A bit uneasy about it though, this lens is so fast/accurate/sharp, even wide open!

Don't do it mark! you'll miss the 70-200!
Have you tried it with a 2x converter? I've seen some really nice images from that set up. I think Patrick here uses a 2x on some of his surfing shots, maybe drop him a line and see if he has used the 100-400L and could compare?

JV, you may be right. I'll only sell/trade if "the right" deal comes along. Otherwise, I won't be sad to keep this lens, it's so sharp wide open!

I've seen lots of Pat's surfing pics, he's really good. He has a 400 2.8 for when he wants to break out a BIG lens, haha!

That shot right there is why you need to keep this lens or you'll kick yourself later! ;-)a

Thanks JV. I found a buyer, so sold it today. Now to find a good 100-400.

How image quality of 70-200mm f/2.8 L USM + 2.0x extender. Will they be good enough to take birding and wildlife photographs?

I don't know about the 2x but i have tried my 1.4x and it slowed AF down a little. IQ is still pretty dang good but I wouldn't trust it for BIF.

280mm focal length is not enough for birding and wildlife photography

Which is why I picked up the Tamron 150-600. There's no real good way to do birding with a 70-200 unless you can get real close to the subject.
