Just wait till the Sigma 50mm f1.4 Art is released! The price of the 50mm f/1.0 will plummet! Nobody will want it!

Har har har..

Unfortunately it won't. The F1.0 will only gain value over the next few years as it becomes more and more rare, and as no one is producing current F1.0 lenses, it's still holding the niche.

Why Sigma? Canon already has it's own 50mm F1.2L. You think Sigma's version is going to be that much better or have an edge? I don't think so. They're just now catching up and offering something in a market that has long been occupied. They're just looking to get a piece of the pie at this point.

If Sigma released a 50mm F1.0, then the game would change for Canon.

Very best,

I wouldn't even pay $1,500 let alone $4000.

The fact Canon no longer services it is a huge red flag for me... If it breaks, you have a paperweight. Unless you are lucky enough to find a third party who has parts for it, which I guess, is very difficult anymore.

Too much risk IMO... Give me an 85L anyday.

Noktor -Hyper Prime has had a poll for making a FF f.95 lens for a long time now, EOS is still in the lead with 42% of the votes.
I am still waiting for it....

I dont get why people keep saying this. I guess we can all forget the 200/1.8 and the 50/f1 because they are potential bricks in the hands of clumsy people, yet you see everyone else shooting the hell out of both lenses.

If I had either the 200 f/1.8 or 50 f/1 and they became irreparable they would be mounted above my desk like the fine trophies they already are.

I agree, and I would be happy to try to focus them wide open if something failed inside.

It is the same reason I won't ever consider the 200/1.8, either. And why would you? Especially since the 200/2 has IS and improved optics and all that. Bragging rights don't matter much to me, though...

Not saying that you can't use them and enjoy them... But *my* worry is the what if... What if the USM fails... The lens goes out of calibration... Other electrical issues? Canon won't touch these lenses, regardless of how much you will pay them to do so.

It is just my thought though... For how old these lenses are getting, if something should happen it will become a PITA. However, maybe nothing happens and the owner will use them for years and years and years...

:D

Even new lens get defective that are handle by professional and it has warrenty and parts for repair. So don't even said people abuse their camera or lens . You think they going to buy expensive item and abuse it on purpose Accident do happen.

Be patient, one day you will find one in an estate sale for 10 dollars. The old man who was using it for an ashtray for the past 10 years never knew.

200/1.8 and 200/2 renderings are completely different, much like the 50/f1 vs the 50/1.2. I highly doubt people will drop that much money for "bragging rights" much less using it for unique images that can't be reproduced in photoshop. I think you are more concerned about the intrinsic value of gear rather than the artistic implications of using fast lenses

You missed my point. Im trying to say that people see these rare lenses as ticking time bombs not worthy of the high premium they demand and why people pay for it. You just see a price tag and an expired warranty and brush it off with "i dont get why people pay so much for these" without understanding why

Your 28-70 doesn't cost $5000.

Just another point, because canon refuses to service them doesn't make them paperweights. There are reliable camera repair shops left in this world.
