There are more and more strong rumours of the Canon G1x getting a mark 11 badge and as the camera enters its 2nd anniversary we could just be weeks a way of the reality.

Rumours are the same size sensor but a CCD type pushing up the IQ with 20 megapixels.
A bigger lens in zoom range 24 - 120mm
The view finder to be replaced by an EVF type.
Next generation processor with faster focussing.

Is this enough improvements for existing users to buy and would it tempt other compact users.

Canon 5D mk3, 50mm 1.4, 17-40L, 70-200L, 100-400L, Canon 100L macro, Canon 2 x G1X, Speedliite 430 EX all supported by Gitzo and Benro.

I wouldn't bother with it personally. My G1x does everything I want of it and I have an SLR for anything else.

I use it mainly as a walk around/travel/ landscape camera and it does that fine.

If it's faster, where it could keep up with my soon to be 3 year old daughter, then that be a yes. If no significant improvement in the focusing department is made then no.

Got any links to these strong rumours?:D
If you just mean clowns on Dpreview speculating, then I don't have much faith in them.
I was just playing around in Photo Ninja with some Raw files today with my G1x, and I'm amazed by the sharpness/image quality of this camera.
I plan on keeping mine regardless.

Don't know if I'm asking the impossible but if the next GX has macro like the G12 (and keeps the swivel screen) I'll go for it.

What was your ISO values when processing in Photo Ninja, I've got the software on my laptop but not really used it yet as lightroom is doing a good job at the moment.

These are the first links I had found, if its true and no longer a rumour we will probably find out in a couple of weeks.

Could it be that Canon want to pitch both the "G17 and G1x mk11" up against the Sony RX100 mk 11 which is not good ergonomically but has excellent IQ and spec. It might also be possible that Canon want to raise the IQ even further and concentrate less on high speed photography in a compact.

Don't like the slimmer idea as I suspect it will mean the loss of the articulated screen.

Pity it's a fake pic :-)

Open the image in PS and see the less than complete edge of the zoom ring...

I've a rollover image showing it at

The new mk2 looks like a 1.92x crop factor, vs the mk1 1.85x
Looks a but ugly to me. Likely smaller size than mk1.
Similar to a m43 with zoom lens.

It doesn't look bad really. I think they should use the same body including the tilty screen for the next M if they create one.

The f/2-3.9 lens and EVF are selling points to me. I was never fond of the slow lenses compact cameras have like the f/2.8-5.9 on the original G1x.

I'm in as soon as it is really sitting on a store shelf.
For $700 do you think the external viewfinder is included? For Nexs that would be a resounding NO.
Agreed that F2 is ever so sweet. The noise profile of the Mk I was great at ISOs meaning something; I can't imaging that getting worse-only better; and with the faster glass the potential of the Mk II greatly enhanced.
For the CHDK users (me), just know this processors nut has not been cracked, which is to say that CHDK is not yet possible and may never be :(
p.s. the pre-order link at BestBuy did not work :( :( :(

Uh, just pre-ordered via Adorama :)
The external OVF must still be in production, I didn't see it as an accessory.
