Hello All,

I am looking for a camera body for portraits, and I have narrowed down my selection to the 5D Classic and 50D. I would like to see some portraits from both cameras to make my mind up. I know glass is the most important!

If you have any comments or suggestions regarding portraits and these two camera bodies please share!

Thank you for your time,
Josh D. McKinney

I'd be on a 40D before a 50D. 5Dc for me though.

for this kind of thing (wanting to see images from a particular camera/lens) I find looking through the flickr groups most effective.

The 50D is very noisy, and since you don't need the slightly better AF system, I suggest getting the 5D instead, for its better image quality (not only noise-wise).

I had to sell all my gear about a year ago, and I am starting over. I know I will take mostly outdoor portraits. I wanted to stay within a 700 budget to start. My first lens I want to buy is the 85 f/1.8.

Why not browse through each cameras thread in the camera section of the forum?

I see you have a 50D and a 85mm f/1.8. How do you like that setup?

It's awesome but with a crop equivalent FOV of 136mm it's sometimes a little long. The 85 is my favorite lens right now. I'll post an example for you in a little bit.

Portraits are more about lights and lens than camera. But with that said 5D much more so than the 50D.

Here's an outdoor shot with my 50D and 85mm with all natural light. I was standing across the street.

And for this one I was about 12 feet away on the opposite end of a long conference table with a speedlight in a softbox camera right and 42 inch silver reflector on the left.

For comaprison, I shot this one with my 5DII and 85mm. I was standing about 8 feet away.

From someone who owns a 50D.... Get the 5Dc, the 50D is decent, just really noisy.

10D and a sheet of cardboard with a pen hole in it.
