Our annual Pink in the Rink night, where the ice is dyed pink and the players wear jersey's with pink in support of cancer awareness. Interestingly enough, prior to the start of the second period, the officiating crew came out and started to patch a few spots on the ice. After a few minutes, they deemed the ice conditions unsafe and made the Zamboni crew come out and scrape all of the pink off the ice, which led to a 1:45 delay.

Shooting with the ice dyed was a little interesting as it was casting shadows on the boards. Luckily I know the light temperature so I was able to set it in post and know I had accurate colors.

Anyway, on with the photos:

Also, got to go into the player's bench for warm-ups and shoot a few shots. Nothing spectacular, but a different perspective. These were shot with the 70-200 2.8mk2

Not that night :)

We actually played them three days in a row. Ads won the Friday game in Milwaukee, but we won Saturday in Rockford and Sunday in Milwaukee. But you guys are way ahead of us in the standings.

My Admirals do pretty well, but I know that this rivalry is pretty good.

Good photos and I love the colors of the Admirals uniforms.

Great crisp shots! What aperture did you use for the action shots? Looks to be roughly 1000/sec shutter? Man, that 1DX is crazy detailed and sharp. Ridiculous! I shoot a lot of the games here in SJ, for the Sea Dogs of the QMJHL. Maybe I'm dreamin' big to accomplish that crisp and clear with my 40D. Lol. I do have the 70-200 2.8 though. And the colour!! Awesome. Shooting in M?

Boy, that one question I had kinda tuned into several!

Thanks for the compliments. Everything was shot in manual mode at 1/1000, f3.2 and 2000 ISO. I don't recall off-hand, but I may have changed a few settings for the last two shots, but not by much. First four also shot over the glass. I would say the cropping on these ranges from 30%-55% with 3 being cropped the tightest. The first four were shot with the 300 2.8 mk2 and the last two were with the 70-200 2.8 mk2.

You can always rent a 1Dx for a weekend and see how it works! But then you'd probably never want to send it back and then you'd be in trouble! You'll have to post some of your recent shots. We don't get many hockey shots here anymore, so it would be a welcome to see other!

I shall post! I haven't been to Harbour Station since I got my new body, so we shall see.

Ahhhhh....300mm That'll do it right there. Absolutely. I'm 'limited' to 200mm on my nice glass, but we'll see what shakes loose next shoot.
