Not for basketball. The crop sensor with the 70-200 is too long for most gyms around here. The base lines are really close to the walls and bleachers. When I had my 85 f/1.8, I used it all the time. I save the 7D for soccer and baseball.

Thanks Danny! The high schools around here play on Tue and Fri night. Tue. nights I'm a little lazy and just set up the HSS lights. Its quick with no adjustments and works pretty good. On Fri. nights I will put up the flashes to over power ambient. Pictures look a lot better because of the lower iso and aperture, but I don't get as many shots and I miss a lot as well.;)

Yours don't have as many shadows as mine do when I use my speedlites. One thing I'm constantly working on.
Your high ISO shots look great too!!

Great looking shots Jim, Theron and Danny! Washington is still undefeated and cruising for a trip to Charleston. Some shots from a couple of their games against section foes.

First round of the playoffs played in an ancient gym. I expected to see hands on the scoreboard clock. It was like a scene out of "Hoosiers". The baselines and sidelines were as close as area football. The tungsten lighting was dim and oh yeah I loved this place...helps when you daughter's team wins.

I shot wide angle to get the flavor of the place. I have plenty of tight action shots...this place had flavor and lent itself to black and white.
