Past 800 or so on mine and it's virtually unusable.

But that's ok, it's going to make me buy a 6d :)

I'm still waiting for the 7DII.

Can 40D shoot video? I know that 50D can shoot video if we upgrade its firmware to a version of Magic Lantern. Can we do the same thing with 40D?

There is no video on the 40D. Don't know about Magic Lantern. Have you looked on the Magic Lantern website? I'm sure they have a list of what it does on the 40D.

EDIT: I just looked. The 40D is not supported by them.

Your 40D CAN shoot movies!

You heard me right - the 40D can shoot movies. There is an app called "EOS Camera Movie Record" that will allow you to capture full motion video with the 40D. Now the catch - you have to have the camera tethered to your PC for this to work - but I have made a number of movies of various lengths with my 40D and they look GREAT!

Here is the site: http://eos-movrec.sourceforge.net/ (external link)

Let me know if you have any questions on it.

How to install it in a 40D?

There is nothing to install on your camera - that is one of the good parts. Its an application that rests on your PC. Download and install it on your PC, then connect your 40D to that PC with the USB cable and turn the camera on in Live View mode, then load the application. You will then be shooting cool movies in no time!

I've used this software to record movies from my 40D but it has very limited application as at the best you are lugging a tethered laptop around with you.

Results were good but I could not see myself filming my kids in the park with it

For those old enough think early video cam with the external tape recorder slung over your shoulder.

Agreed that it has limited application since you have to be tethered as I mentioned above - but its fun to play with the shallow DOF in video - that is for sure.

I haven't used my 40D in a long time but I did recently upload some old stuff(mostly underwater) to flickr.

Caught this epic sunset just before getting underway for a night wreck dive. Camera was already in underwater housing, hoped off the boat, ran to the end of the pier and snapped a quick shot.

Mute video only (+_+)? I need a body which can record videos which contain audio
